The dilapidated healthcare infrastructure has continued to remain a serious problem across the entire region. Over the past few years, public healthcare systems have been badly underfunded. This is one of the reasons for which there has been an increase in the number of patients choosing private healthcare over its public counterpart. Public hospitals in the region continued to lack efficiency, grappling with overcapacity, a lack of funding and poor managerial expertise. However, recent years have seen measures by governments across the region to reduce hospital capacities and to restructure existing resources.
