Debt of Slovak hospitals for medical devices and supplies continues to grow

Slovakia-based state hospitals owe almost €183m to 30 suppliers of medical devices and special medical supplies represented by the Slovak Association of Medical Device Suppliers (SK+MED) at the end of Q1 2017, up by €22m year on year.

Out of the total sum, overdue debt amounts to €158m. The lack of timely payments from hospitals puts pressure on the normal business operations of local suppliers, while also limiting patients’ access to the latest medical technologies, the association argued.

SK+MED also said it wants to participate in the Health Ministry’s preparations of a debt reduction concept for local hospitals or at least have a possibility to comment on the concept before it is implemented.
