Imminent start of pilot negotiations between FaAP countries and pharma firms confirmed by Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health on 12 February issued a statement officially confirming that preparations have been stepped up for Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania and Croatia, to negotiate as a group with drug manufacturers about the prices of medicines being considered for reimbursement, as part of an initiative called Fair and Affordable Pricing (FaAP).

Preliminary agreement has already been reached regarding the rules of procedure for the joint negotiations, and regarding the medicines whose prices will be negotiated in this way on a pilot basis.

These negotiations will have the character of technical consultations between the FaAP countries and pharmaceutical firms, and their objective will be to work out a long-term strategy for improving access to medicinal products in specific therapeutic areas, the ministry explained.
